I refuse to donate blood because I won't support a program where they'll ask you about your vaccination status going in to donate, but won't tell people of the status of the blood as a recipient. You are correct. I had a casual conversation with my co-worker who "casually" said that she worked in the DNA database in one of the major medical centers. My co-worker said every day end of the day all the unused blood samples from regular blood test were collected, de-identified, sequenced and put in the DNA database. My co-worker's job was to sequence those samples. She thought nothing of it since it was de-identified. I was horrified to hear that as I believe de-identification can be easily "un-de-identified". She said three years ago when she left they already had over 100k in the database. I'm still in shock.
