Can you grind up tangerine peels in a vitamix and use in a smoothie? I grind up whole lemons (peel and all) with blueberries in my vitamix now and drink it - can I add tangerine peels to that?
Fascinating!! I saw that Dr. Mihalcea is recommending one drop of lemon, grapefruit, and cinnamon essential oils daily as treatment for the rubbery blood clots she observes. I quickly looked up tangerine peel on Amazon. Evidently, this is a traditional Chinese medicine called Chen Pi. One outfit makes their products from only organic products (so no wax?) and offers an extract. Chinese companies offer their traditional product which one evidently mixes with hot water. Many are third party tested. This looks really, really interesting. Have a wonderful week-end, Walter!!
It's been well known for years eating half a grapefruit a day will lower your blood pressure (fibrin clotting in arteries) so dramatically it's not safe to take blood pressure lowering meds while eating grapefruit since it will lower too much. Nature is amazing.
The tangerine peels sound enticing, but growing them yourself seems the only way to ensure skin purity. Also, most fresh fruits and veggies are irradiated and give off a nice "afterglow" of radiation when meter tested.
~wikipedia "The citrus flavonoids include hesperidin (a glycoside of the flavanone hesperetin), quercitrin, rutin (two glycosides of the flavonol quercetin), and the flavone tangeritin."
I make a drink with lemons, grapefruits & oranges. I quarter them, squeeze the juice from fruit in the pan, toss in all peels, add 3 liters of tonic, simmer for 2 hours, remove from heat. After it completely cools (this takes some time) remove the peels & add another liter of tonic. You can use water in place of the tonic. I will try with tangerines (instead of oranges) next time.
Use Dawn soap to clean peels then use in a smoothie! Most of the time heat destroys the good ingredients unless using cold press to remove juice from peel!

At the risk of sounding silly, would orange marmalade have similar properties?

Interesting. I found this: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1934578X211042540
My tree is loaded and the peels are delicious.... you can grow them in a pot and bring indoors for winter in northern climes.
How do you prepare the hesperetin from the peels?

One can also inexpensively supplement...here's an example, from a brand I trust [not affiliated]: https://bluebonnetnutrition.com/products/citrus-bioflavonoid-complex-750-mg-vegetable-capsules

I wonder if it survives cooking? Made myself a tangerine and apricot cake recently. Trust your taste?

Fantastic post, Walter. Many thanks for your hard work.
They don’t sell hesperetin in a supplement?
I see they sell hesperidin…. Same benefits?

Anybody know of good supplement using these peels?
I wonder if the modified citrus pectin product of Dr Eliaz would have similar benefits.
Excellent Walter! Thank you!! Peace.
