Walter - keep the research and analysis coming.

As for this stack, I’d suggest focusing more on lowering insulin resistance as a deeper root cause for fighting COVID or more likely just rebalancing the immune system to improve general overall health.

To lower insulin resistance:

1- Lower dietary carbohydrates

2- Consider Fasting regimens such as Intermittent Fasting/Time Restricted Feeding

3- Increase activity/exercise

4- Improved sleep quality and circadian cycles

Metformin can help but the lifestyle hacks above do it naturally.

I like to focus my substack blog on diet and lifestyle choices for improved health.

Walter, when are you coming to Montreal, i have some interesting data we can discuss after a few games of blitz? :-)

Great find! I hope to be up there in the next few weeks. Will let you know!

walter you might find this interesting. copied from another post.

Today I found this study. It shows that about 20% of athletes had a massive decline in VO2max levels following their booster vaccination. The authors explained the consequences of this effect are still unknown. What you think about it, which consequences could this have?

Abstract:

Background and Aims

The goal of the present study was to systematically evaluate the effect of a booster vaccination with the BNT162b2 messenger RNA (mRNA; Pfizer-BioNTech®) vaccine on maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max), potential signs of (peri)myocarditis, and sports participation.

Methods

Recreational athletes who were scheduled to undergo booster vaccination were evaluated with transthoracic echocardiography, serum measurements of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hsCRP) and high-sensitivity troponin I, and a bicycle cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) with serum lactate evaluation before the booster vaccine administration. Seven days postvaccination the test battery was repeated. Additionally, the subjects were asked to fill in a questionnaire on side effects and a subjective evaluation of their relative training volume and intensity as compared to the weeks before vaccination.

Results

A group of 42 analysed athletes showed a statistically significant 2.7% decrease in VO2max after vaccination (mean standard error of mean pre: 48.6 (1.4) ml/kg/min; post: 47.3 (1.4) ml/kg/min; p = 0.004). A potentially clinically relevant decrease of 8.6% or more occurred in 8 (19%) athletes. Other CPET parameters and lactate curves were comparable. We found no serological or echocardiographic evidence of (peri)myocarditis. A slight but significant increase in hsCRP was noted 1 week after vaccination. Side effects were mild and sports participation was generally unchanged or mildly decreased after vaccination.

Conclusion

In our population of recreational endurance athletes, booster vaccination with the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine resulted in a statistically significant decrease in VO2max 7 days after vaccination. The clinical impact hereof needs to be further determined. No major adverse events were observed.

That is really interesting! I’m taking Artemisia Annua extract (alcohol-free), since before the pandemic. Now, after going through covid, I felt like I needed an increased dose.

When we had no access to Ivermectin we used just straight artemisinin to deal with long COVID. It was an important part of the usual cocktail of nutraceuticals NAC Glutathione etc that worked ,within a few days symptom free. Also together with doxycycline was able to treat Lyme disease successfully. with it.

Madagascar, Tanzania, Comoros , Equatorial Guinea Bissau , Haiti all escaped the pandemic with almost zero deaths thanks to Artemisia Annua. They did not need injections that angered GAVI and all of the leaders of these countries were assassinated. The attempt against Madagascars President Andry Rajoelina was foiled..

Haiti's president was not so lucky and overnight plane loads of lethal slow kill injections were sent there immediately after he was killed.

Berberine comes to mind as a non-pharma option: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36183284/ and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19800084/

Yes. Berberine does just about the same job as Metformin and does it without the side effects...and may be beneficial. Worth a look.

Fascinating.

One caveat: Metformin blocks B12 uptake and, IMO, this is one of the reasons so many Type II diabetics develop peripheral neuropathy. Of course, most of these folks are also on statins which have their own set of side effects (actually increase DMII about 38%)... Anyway, I advise patients who are on long term metformin to obtain monthly B12 injections - forever.

I was going to review Galega officinalis as an antiviral but it drops your blood sugar too well!

Galega is the parent of Metformin. What else does it do? Aids lactation in goats!

Effects of Medications to Treat Diabetes on Milk Supply

Given the potential role of insulin resistance in low milk production, metformin has been proposed as a galactogogue. Metformin is a derivative of guanidine, one of the metabolically active compounds in Galega officinalis, or goat’s rue. Goat’s rue is so-named because it increases milk production in goats.

Interesting idea, but metformin has been touted as a wonder drug for many things over the time and not necessarily delivered, unfortunately. It was part an arm of the now discredited TOGETHER trial

Thank you. A friend of mine started this med after being diagnosed with diabetes but stopped b/c it causes digestive issues not wanted by most unfortunately. Berberine could be a natural alternative?

Expand full comment

I know someone who had the same problem but stuck with it and the symptoms went away. Not sure this would be the same for everyone. But if your friend can't regulate blood sugar with anything else, may want to try being uncomfortable for a while on the Met.

Metformin also seems to be effective to starve certain cancer pathways.

This is very interesting since it is the only drug ever endorsed by Life Extension. It seems to have a benefit as to keeping cancers at bay as well. It would be interesting if it might undo clotting?

But ppl are having insane diarrhea on it. And dehydration is already a problem with most ppl post vax/covid b/c of adrenal dysfunction

Expand full comment

Diarrhea is dose dependent. Sometimes if you start at a lower dose and titrate slowly it can be avoided.

Diarrhea is dose dependent...yes a person can us 500Mg 'time release' tablets 4 x per 12 hours

I get it. But some pharma stuff doesn’t work for many. Like statins. But most are forced to accept the side effects b/c they strongholded by pharma

‘Life Extension’ are big proponents of statins too,I am afraid. I.

If Metformin works, wouldn't Berberine work just as well? As a non pharma option?

Has anyone heard of Berberine also having anti-cancer properties?

Yes! It also has been shown to work just as well if not better than Metformin!
