Friday Hope: Glucosamine: Significant Reduction in the Risks of COVID Hospitalization and Death
Its proven effects of reducing IL-6 may be among the mechanisms at work.
I have previously reported on Glucosamine. Glucosamine has been proven to reduce Spike expression in cells.

There is also evidence that Glucosamine is effective in combatting other aspects of SARS-CoV-2 infection – and with proven results. A very interesting paper was published on April 11th of last year which found that individuals who regularly consume glucosamine had substantially decreased risks of being hospitalized with or dying from SARS-CoV-2.
The fully adjusted odds ratio of SARS-CoV-2 infection with glucosamine use was 0.96 (95% CI: 0.92–1.01). The fully adjusted HR were 0.80 (95% CI: 0.74–0.87) for hospital admission, and 0.81 (95% CI: 0.69–0.95) for mortality. The logistic regression and Cox proportional hazard analyses after PSM yielded consistent results. Our study demonstrated that habitual glucosamine use is associated with reduced risks of hospital admission and death with COVID-19, but not the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The paper I reviewed last year reported on how glucosamine reduces the expression of Spike Protein. This, alone, should be effective in reducing the morbidity of SARS-CoV-2. A paper I will reference today demonstrates another mechanism by which glucosamine may reduce the severity of SARS-CoV-2 and the effects of its Spike Protein. This is a 9% reduction in the levels of IL-6 for those suffering from Osteoarthritis. A disease, which, like SARS-CoV-2, can lead to high levels of IL-6.
Results: All serum proteins except WNT16 were lower after treatment with GH+CS, while about half increased after celecoxib. Serum IL-6 was significantly reduced (by 9%, P=0.001) after GH+CS, and satisfied the FDR<0.05 threshold. CCL20, CSF3, and WNT16 increased after celecoxib (by 7%, 9% and 9%, respectively, P<0.05), but these serum proteins were no longer statistically significant after controlling for multiple testing.
Conclusion: The results of this study using samples from a previously conducted trial in OA patients, demonstrate that GH+CS reduces circulating IL-6, an inflammatory cytokine, but is otherwise comparable to celecoxib with regard to effects on other circulating protein biomarkers.

Indeed, Il-6 is a major factor in the “cytokine storm” of severe and fatal COVID. Therefore, it is only logical that a significant reduction in the release of IL-6 may be all that is needed to keep an individual out of hospital, and, more importantly, out of the grave.
In individuals with COVID-19, one of the primary inflammatory agents that causes inflammatory storm is IL-6. It promotes the inflammatory response of virus infection, including the virus infection caused by SARS-CoV-2, and provides a new diagnostic and therapeutic strategy. In this review article, we highlighted the functions of IL-6 in the coronavirus, especially in COVID-19, showing that IL-6 activation plays an important function in the progression of coronavirus and is a rational therapeutic goal for inflammation aimed at coronavirus.

As always, thank you for your readership and support. Please have a healthy, hopeful, and blessed weekend.

Great information and thanks. There are significant links between Il-6 and UTi & Bacturias in the literature- especially delusion associated w UTI (eg elderly). If I recall rightly Cedars was working in this area. I wonder if D-Glucosimine has good effect in this extremely important area where the mortality and morbidity is so devastating? This is such important information! 💜
Great article! Thanks!
